This week we will have a Special Lecture by Prof. Alexander Dranishnikov .
Special Colloquium Lecture (note the unusual day and time):
Dimension growth of groups
When: Thursday June 23, 12:00-13:00
Where: Room (-101).
Abstract: For finitely generated groups with finite asymptotic dimension all good things happen like the Novikov conjecture, the Baum-Connes conjecture (and many other) hold true.
To study asymptotically infinite dimensional groups we introduce an invariant called the dimension growth.
We compute the dimension growth for Thompson’s group F.
Also we make estimates of dimension growth of expander and wreath products of integers.
In both cases so far there is no complete answers. (joint with M. Sapir)
